Lot 202 was first leased by Robert Phillips in 1790. He immediately built the building on the right as his log dwelling house with a smith shop and stables behind it along the alley. Sometime in the mid-late 1800s the building on the left was built as a commercial space.
According to the Sanborn Insurance Maps drawn in 1918 and as shown in old photos, the buildings were a general store on the left, and a grocery on the right, owned by the Downs Family who lived just across the alley at 13 E Potomac, now owned by the Trogisch’s.
Sometime after 1918 and before 1945, the third floor with the Mansard Roof was added to the old Phillips log house along the alley
